Official Rules - ModLap Championship
Article 1: Introduction
The ModLap Championship (MLC) is a community-based TrackMania competition, open to all players wishing to compete in a sportsmanlike and friendly environment.
Article 2: Participation Requirements
2.1. Every player must have a valid TrackMania account and be registered on the official MLC website.
2.2. Each player must join or create a team before being able to participate in official rounds.
2.3. Registration constitutes full acceptance of these rules.
2.4. Any player displaying inappropriate behaviour may be denied access to the competition.
Article 3: Competition Format
3.1. The competition is organised in seasons, each consisting of several rounds.
3.2. Each round takes place over a defined period, announced in advance on the website and the official Discord server.
3.3. The maps played during each round are selected by the organisation and announced before the round begins.
Article 4: Round Procedure
A round consists of three phases: qualifications, semi-finals and the final.
4.1. Qualifications
4.1.1. Qualifications are played on the round maps (10 maps), each played over 5 laps.
4.1.2. Players may replay maps as many times as they wish during the qualification period to improve their ranking.
4.1.3. At the end of qualifications, the top 32 players in the ranking qualify directly for the final.
4.1.4. The next 72 players qualify for the semi-finals.
4.1.5. Remaining players are eliminated from the round.
4.2. Semi-finals
4.2.1. Semi-finals are played on the same maps as qualifications, but this time over 3 laps.
4.2.2. Depending on the number of qualifiers, one or two semi-finals may be held. If two semi-finals are organised, players are distributed based on their availability provided during registration.
4.2.3. The first-place player at the end of the 3 laps in each semi-final qualifies for the final.
4.3. Final
4.3.1. The final takes place on two servers:
- Server 1: hosts players who qualified directly from qualifications.
- Server 2: hosts semi-final winners.
4.3.2. The final is played on the round maps plus a bonus map that has not been played in any previous phase, totalling 11 maps.
4.3.3. The final is played over 10 laps per map.
4.3.4. Results from both servers are combined to establish the final round ranking.
Article 5: Points System
5.1. Qualification Points
For each map, three types of points are awarded:
a) Base points
Each player receives a number of points equal to the total number of participants on the map minus their position. The 1st place player receives the maximum points, and the last place player receives 1 point.
Example with 50 players: 1st = 50 pts, 2nd = 49 pts, ..., 50th = 1 pt.
b) Top 5 bonus
Bonus points are awarded to the top 5 of each map:
- 1st β +10 points
- 2nd β +8 points
- 3rd β +6 points
- 4th β +4 points
- 5th β +2 points
c) Best lap bonus
The player who sets the best single-lap time on a map receives a bonus of +10 points for that map.
d) Qualification ranking
The ranking is determined first by the number of maps played (descending), then by total points (descending).
5.2. End-of-Round Points Calculation
The total score for a round is composed of several cumulative elements:
a) Qualification bonus (QB)
The top 64 in the qualification ranking receive a bonus: 64 - qualification position.
1st receives 64 points, 2nd receives 63 points, ..., 64th receives 1 point.
b) Semi-final bonus (SB)
Each player who qualified for the final through semi-finals receives a fixed bonus of 10 points.
c) Final participation bonus (FB)
Every final participant receives 20 base points, even without finishing a map.
d) Final map points
For each final map (11 maps over 10 laps), players receive:
- 2 Γ (65 - position) points based on placement (1st = 128 pts, 2nd = 126 pts, ..., 64th = 2 pts)
- Top 3 bonus per map: 1st = +10, 2nd = +5, 3rd = +2
e) Round total
Total = QB + SB + FB + sum of points from each final map
This total determines the end-of-round ranking.
5.3. Championship Points (Season)
Championship points are awarded based on the end-of-round ranking, with a different scale depending on the player's participation:
a) Finalists
Players who participated in the final receive: 128 - rank + 1 championship points.
An additional bonus is awarded to the top 10:
- 1st β +25 points
- 2nd β +20 points
- 3rd β +15 points
- 4th β +10 points
- 5th β +8 points
- 6th β +6 points
- 7th β +5 points
- 8th β +3 points
- 9th β +2 points
- 10th β +1 point
The winner of a round can earn up to 153 championship points (128 + 25).
b) Non-finalists
Players who did not participate in the final receive points on a reduced scale: NBNF - rank + 1, where NBNF is the number of unique scores among non-finalists.
c) Unexcused absences
A player qualified for the final but absent without having declared a forfeit receives a penalty of -100 championship points and loses one credit.
Each player has 2 credits per season. At 0 credits, the player can no longer register for subsequent rounds.
5.4. Overall Season Ranking
The overall ranking is the sum of championship points earned across all completed rounds, sorted by total in descending order.
Article 6: Teams
6.1. Each team must have a unique name and a tag (abbreviation).
6.2. A player may only belong to one team at a time.
6.3. The team creator is the team manager and handles membership requests.
6.4. A team ranking is established by combining the times of the top 4 players from each team during the final of each round.
Article 7: Fair Play and Conduct
7.1. All players must behave respectfully towards other participants, both on servers and on Discord.
7.2. Insults, harassment, cheating or any form of toxic behaviour are strictly prohibited.
7.3. The use of third-party software, scripts, macros or any tool providing an unfair advantage is strictly forbidden.
7.4. Any suspicion of cheating will be investigated by the organisation, which reserves the right to disqualify the player concerned.
Article 8: Penalties
8.1. In case of rule violations, the following penalties may be applied:
- Warning
- Deletion of times recorded during a round
- Temporary exclusion from the competition
- Permanent exclusion from the competition
8.2. A player qualified for the final but absent without having declared a forfeit receives a penalty of -100 championship points and loses a credit (see Article 5.3.c).
8.3. Penalties are decided by the organisation and are final.
Article 9: Servers
9.1. Only times recorded on official MLC servers are taken into account.
9.2. In the event of a technical issue on a server (crash, lag), the organisation reserves the right to extend the duration of a phase or round.
9.3. Relay servers are available in spectator mode to follow the competition without interfering with participants.
Article 10: Rule Amendments
10.1. The organisation reserves the right to amend these rules at any time.
10.2. Any amendments will be communicated on the official website and Discord.
10.3. Amendments take effect immediately upon publication.
